Groups and LDAP


LDAP and Groups

If Silva has been connected to LDAP, group membership information can be configured to be retrieved from an LDAP server. This is allows the reuse of groups defined centrally on such a server, and this can scale to many users and large groups.

Membership Service -

If the Membership Service and the Email Service is activated, authors can request a higher role, the Chief Editor will receive an email of the request.


To activate the Membership Service, toggle to the Zope Management Interface using the manage… link at the top of the Silva Management Screen.

Click on the Services Tab.

Click on the link under Name called (service_members (Silva Membership Service).

To allow membership requests click the yes checkbox.

Click Change Settings.

The Email Service is activated in the Zope Management Interface.

Toggle to the Zope Management Interface using the manage… link at the top of the Silva Management Screen.

Click on the Services Tab.

Click on the link under Name called service_messages (Silva Message Service).

Fill in the details and click Change Settings.

Chief Editors are notified about a request with an email that includes a link to the AccessTab (if the E-mail Message Service has not been activated the request just appears in the Access Screen at that location).

Requests are listed in the Pending requests for roles table.

To process a request:

The user will be informed by email if theEmail Service is active, otherwise they will just be granted access.
